July 2012 – Madeira Island

Madeira is a volcanic island in the Atlantic Ocean, circa 500Km off the Moroccan coast.
The tourists choose Madeira because of its rocky coasts, its mountains, and its levada paths:

Our motivations were all of those, and we enjoyed every feature of the island.

It takes twelve pages (and hundreds photos) to give an idea of what we saw:

– Funchal, the only city
– Mercado dos Lavradores, in Funchal
– Mountains and landscapes in Madeira island
– Pico Ruivo (1862mt. above the ocean), the highest peak in Madeira
– The laurel forest
– The levada walks
– The old road ER101, on the north coast
– West and South coasts
– Ponta de São Lourenço
– Jardim Botânico da Madeira
– Ilhas Desertas
– São Vicente volcanic caves
