Oysters pickers

Few weeks between October and November are the best period for collecting oysters in the North Sea.
On low tide, one can pick the clams with bare hands, having few hours before the sea level raises again.
In 2011 we went in Mandø, a small island by the west coast of Jylland, in Denmark, connected to the mainland with a road that’s flooded twelve hours a day because of the high tide.
The island has a sand bank by the west coast, and we found the shells there.

The needed tools are very simple: fishermen’s boots and gloves.

And then… a wandering group of pickers can collect about a thousand oysters in less than two hours.
Two full dinners for twelve people with only oysters, either raw or cooked…
